A quiet achiever who earned the reputation as one of the best defenders of his era. With his strong marking ability and penetrating kick, Mew had the skills to foil even the best prepared attack. He played in four premierships for the Hawks before retiring to his home town of Rosebud following the 1989 Grand Final victory. He rejoined the Hawks on Allan Jeans’ request and went on to play a vital role in the 1991 flag win, taking his premiership tally to five.
