Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson says the external pressure for the side to perform is matched by the heat felt within the club's four walls.

Despite conceding the Hawks are still well within the mode of decisions on preferred "personnel and methodology", Clarkson said the group still has a strong sense of pride that was left battered and bruised following last week's loss to North Melbourne.

Tallest Hawk ever set to make his debut

"We were disappointed that we were so scratchy in the middle of the ground last week, we lowered our colours to a midfield that played great footy," Clarkson said.

"The blowtorch comes both internally and externally when you have a result like that but we're also really, really mindful of where we are at.

"We're continuing to rehearse our method of how we want to play and sometimes we get that right, but last week we didn't get it so right.

"So, we're continuing to work on which personnel and which methodology will allow us to compete seriously at the end of September in the years to come - we will continue to work through that but it just takes a little bit of time."
