Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson says his side has had to place a premium on being flexible and prepared as the state of Victoria and the broader AFL competition enters yet another period of uncertainty.

The Hawks are currently slated to face Melbourne at the MCG at 4.35pm on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson said the side was prepared for any potential late alterations to its Round 18 fixture.

"All we've really told our players is to be prepared for anything," Clarkson said.

"It's highly likely that we'll be playing Melbourne at the MCG somewhere across this weekend!

"We're thinking it's 4.35 on Saturday at the current time but if it gets changed either earlier or later, we will just roll with the punches.

"Our players will be ready - we're ready to go!

"Even if they called the game on tonight, we'd be ready to go!"
