Hawthorn VFLW started its 2022 season off with a bang after taking down North Melbourne in a convincing 59-point win on Sunday.

In new Coach Cherie O’Neill’s first match at the helm, the Hawks scored 10 goals compared to the Kangaroos' two.

Despite North Melbourne kicking the first goal of the game, Hawthorn quickly responded with a goal of their own through recruit Mietta Kendall.

The new-look brown and gold outfit were largely untroubled from there.

Hawthorn led by 19 points at half-time and held the Kangaroos scoreless after the main break while adding another six goals.

The Hawks won the inside 50 count by a dominant 48-11 to take top spot on the ladder at the end of the opening round.

The forward line, enhanced by Kendall and captain Tamara Luke, was an unstoppable force.

Kendall booted three goals, while Luke finished with two of her own from a round-high nine marks.

Tegan Cunningham was also outstanding for the Hawks finishing with 25 disposals – making her the only player in the match to tally 20 or more – while also adding a goal, six tackles, 12 hit-outs and five clearances.

Hawthorn will look to continue the winning momentum when they meet Geelong in their Round 2 clash on Saturday at Waurn Ponds.
