After being dormant for three years due to Covid, the Hawks Museum is pleased to announce that one of our major attractions, the ‘100 Games or more’ panel, has now been updated.
‘The 100 games or more’ panel, on display in the Museum’s foyer, rivals the ‘Team Photo Wall’ for animated in-depth discussion amongst our many visitors. They can be heard debating, ‘who was the best player? who was the best team man? who was the best kick or mark?’
It is fascinating to sit back and listen to the engaging conversations and learn more of the visitors’ assessments of the players who have registered at least 100 games and their achievements.
These discussions often lead to the 100 gamers’ post-football careers. What their occupations are now, where they live, whether they have family and invariably, as their children grow older, whether their sons or daughters will make the grade at Hawthorn.
Of the 951 players who have worn the brown and gold, 142 players have achieved 100 games or more. Of these, 108 players have played a further 100 games to record 200 games, with another 27 players registering 300 games.
Only seven players have gone beyond 300 games, Don Scott (302), Chris Langford (303), Shane Crawford and Luke Hodge (305), current coach, Sam Mitchell (307) Leigh Matthews (332) and the legendary Michael Tuck with an incredible 426 games. Tuck is ranked second in the League, behind Brent Harvey of North Melbourne who played 432 VFL/AFL games.
Our most recent player to reach the milestone of 100 games was Blake Hardwick in Round 21, 2021, when the Hawks defeated Collingwood. He went on to play the last two games of the season to take his games tally to 102.
Since Hawthorn joined the VFL/AFL in 1925 to the end of season 2021, 84 players have played one senior game for the club.
