Steph Binder has been selected as part of the coaching panel for the inaugural rebel VFLW State Team.

Binder is Hawthorn AFLW’s backline coach and a Box Hill Hawks specialist coach.

She joined Hawthorn ahead of the 2024 season after spending time as an AFLW development coach with Collingwood, before that she spent two seasons as North Melbourne’s VFLW senior coach, and previously played in the league for the Southern Saints.

Last year Binder was awarded the 2024 AFL Coaches Association Women’s Coaching Pathway Scholarship.

Binder joins former AFLW Hawk and current Collingwood VFLW assistant Sarah Perkins as part of the coaching panel, which will be spearheaded by North Melbourne VFLW premiership coach, Brett Gourley as the side’s head coach.

Binder expressed her elation at the opportunity to coach the VFLW State Team.

“I’m so excited to be part of the inaugural VFLW State League team in a coaching capacity,” she said.

“I've been fortunate to previously coach the Under 19s Vic Country team in 2021, which I loved, so this feels very similar to that, and I can’t wait.

“I’ve been involved with VFLW for a long time, so it’s an honour to be able to be part of it once again with the opportunity to coach the best of the best when we take on South Australia next month.”

The VFLW State Team will take on the SANFLW side in the AAMI State game as part of the AFL Gather Round in South Australia, on Friday April 11 (6.30pm local / 7.00pm AEST) at Alberton Oval.

The rebel VFLW 2025 season will kick off the following week, with the Box Hill Hawks to take on Geelong in Round 1 on Saturday 19 April from 11.05am at Deakin University, Geelong.
