Round 6 demonstrated the young strength from the Hawks, charging through to a 47-point victory against North Melbourne.
The autumn weather arrived this week and left the ground dewy and cold, which had a large impact on accuracy from both sides in the first half.
All eyes were drawn to newly signed AFLW Hawk Zoe Barbakos, who got involved early with a few attempts at goal in the first quarter.
Kristy Stratton got the ball rolling for the Hawks oh a goal late in the term, both teams sitting on a goal each going into the quarter time break.
The second quarter saw the wet ball become a larger problem, however Hawthorn stayed strong, keeping North away from the goals, and the footy in the Hawks forward 50 for most of the quarter.
Debutant Jade Wise kicked her first goal from a set shot to push the Hawks further in front.
Half time chat saw a huge push for positivity from the girls. Assistant coach Lou Wotton wanted to see more one-on-one competition in the final half, and encouraged the girls to be more aggressive.
Coach Cherie O’Neill was looking for smarter plays, as she told the girls to “start changing up the way [they] play”, and “start working for each other”.
The girls looked fired up coming out for the final half. The sun was out, and the dew had fired up ready for a powerful half of footy.
The Hawks hit their stride in the third term with goals from Sarah Cameron, Kristy Stratton, Mietta Kendall and Dom Carbone piling onto the scoreboard.
After a brilliant display of athleticism by our more experienced players, it was time for the debutants to take charge, with a goal from debutant Emmi-Lee Close in the last quarter.
This was followed by a well anticipated goal from Zoe Barbakos to close out the Hawks victory.
Another beautiful win for the Hawks on a beautiful day, to add to their now four-in-a-row winning streak.
