The VFLW Hawks dominated this weekend's game with a 39-point victory over Casey at Box Hill City Oval.
The weather performed well for the highly anticipated match up, and so did the girls.
Captain Tamara Luke sparked the energy early with a set shot goal.
Casey then played goal to goal with Luke as she secured her second goal for the day.
It was a different dynamic on the field today, the Demons with a team full of tall players, created a challenge for the Hawks smaller forwards.
At quarter time Hawthorn Coach Cherie O’Neill encouraged the girls to continue to trust each other and keep competing for the ball.
A sour start to the second quarter as we saw Zoe Barbakos stretchered off the ground with a suspected knee injury. She will be having scans early this week to determine her next move.
Morale was shaken, but captain Luke lifted the team with her third goal of the match.
Jenna Richardson, Nadia Von Bertouch and Ainslie Kemp looked incredibly solid, the backline trio kept the Demons away from the goals and scoreless in the second term.
Half time chat had O’Neill reminding the girls to look for the talls in the forward, as the Casey defenders kept the Hawks smalls quiet in the first half.
O’Neill sent the girls into the final half with positivity and confidence, commending their work rate and ability to make and maintain the contest.
Height came from Tegan Cunningham with an early goal, followed up by another from Tahlia Meyer to open the second half.
The ball barely left the Hawks forward fifty in the third quarter, but Casey kept up the pressure, forcing a handful of behinds. Before a powerful goal from Izzy Porter brought the girls together in celebration, to close out the dominating term.
A quiet final quarter demonstrated yet again the strength of the Hawthorn backline.
Kristy Stratton finished off the game with a skilful running goal to secure Hawthorn its eighth victory in a row as the girls rose to second place on the ladder.
