Jai Newcombe has once again captured the attention of Hawthorn fans, landing the Round 8 fan-voted MVP.

The youngster has fast risen into one of the most prominent midfielders in the brown and gold this season, enjoying another strong outing on Saturday night with a team-high 28 disposals and a game-high four centre clearances.

Newcombe was a shining light in his side's loss to Essendon, with 22 of his disposals accumulated in the first half alone.

In what was just his 15th AFL game, he also finished with a team-high 11 contested possessions and a career-best eight marks.

The 20-year-old has had a stellar start to the season, quickly cementing himself as a key part of Sam Mitchell's side.

Having only joined the Hawks less than a year ago at the mid-season rookie draft, Newcombe has impressed fans with his power to break tackles, smart ball use and ability to cover the ground.

His season to date already includes a Rising Star nomination following a 31-disposal performance in Round 5, a previous two MVP accolades and the stats to match.

Newcombe has averaged the most inside 50s of any Hawk this season (4.3 per game), the third most disposals (22), and is ranked fourth for tackles (4) and third for clearances (2.9).
