Box Hill made it back-to-back wins when it stormed from behind to claim a 33-point victory against Richmond on Sunday.
We spoke with Hawthorn Development Coach Andy Otten to see how the dozen senior-listed Hawks fared in the win.
Daniel Howe (26 disposals, 9 tackles, 5 tackles, 5 clearances)
"Howey led the game for us in terms of his toughness and intent to tackle - he would have had four or five 'holding the ball' free kicks. He showed some really tough moments that set the scene for us. He played really well, it was an AFL-standard game."
Liam Shiels (24 disposals, 7 marks, 8 clearances, 4 tackles)
"Shiels' leadership just can't be matched - he is just so instrumental with this young team and what he brings to this side. They all walk taller with him around. Him and Howey led the way in the second half with our tough they were, another AFL-level standard game for him."
Kyle Hartigan (10 disposals, 5 marks, 1 goal)
"Big Kyle Hartigan played down one end for the entire game - he played back one quarter and than forward the next and repeated that twice. He was really solid for us in defence, he looked really strong down there and lead really well. There's a lot of confidence when Moose is down there. And then in the forward line, he gave us a great contest. They had some great key defenders who were hurting us in the first quarter so we thought putting Moose down there would strengthen us up a bit and provide a great contest. He kicked a really nice left foot goal, which I'm sure he'll tell everyone about."
Jackson Callow (17 disposals, 1 goal, 6 marks, 5 hit-outs)
"Callow came into the side after getting his taste of the AFL during the last two weeks. He came back and performed at a really high level. I think he learnt a lot in those two games in the AFL. It was pleasing to see him execute those learnings in his first game back. I thought he owned the air in the second half with some really nice contested marks, and helped us in that second half with the way we played and moved the ball."
Ned Long (23 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles)
"Longy had his most consistent four-quarter performance for Box Hill this year - he had a mixture of up forward and midfield time - so that was really good exposure for him. He's ability this week to be able to spread faster with more intent to get the ball on the outside works wonders for him. I think that really gave him confidence when he came to the inside."
Josh Morris (13 disposals, 5 tackles)
"Tank again continued his strong form down back. He started the game a little bit scratchy but worked his way into the game after quarter time. He had some really strong moments for us. His ground ball in the middle of the ground was a highlight."
Seamus Mitchell (19 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles)
"Seamus continues his development as a defender, he's learning each week and implementing those learnings which is great to see for a young developing backman. He is starting to take the game on a bit more with his speed when he gets the ball in hand, which is what we like to see. He's progressing really nicely for us. His skills were a little bit scratchy this game, but he'll no doubt improve quickly with the fundamentals."
Jack Saunders (13 disposals, 3 marks)
"Young Saundo again, with the ball in hand is looking really dangerous for us now. I think him and Seamus have both realised how fast they are and how much taking the game on provides a lift for the team. He's still learning some defensive elements of his game, but that'll come with some more experience."
Connor Downie (13 disposals, 3 marks)
"It was good to see Connor play his second game in a row. Again, he's still finding his feet after being injured for so long. He's finding his groove down back and on the wing. He had some really good front half turnovers for us with some nice intercept marks and nice beautiful left foot kicks in. We're looking to keep building Connor, keep building on his match fitness and impact on the game."
Jai Serong (4 disposals, 2 marks)
"It was a pretty quiet game for young Jai, again he struggled up forward in the first quarter so we put him down back to see if we could get a lift from him down back. It was probably a game to forget for him, but he'll learn quickly this week and look to bounce back."
Fionn O'Hara (6 disposals, 2 tackles)
"Young Fionn, our Irish recruit, played his first game for the year for Box Hill. It was great to see. He has put in some hard yards over the last week to build his body and resilience up to be ready to play VFL footy. He didn't look out of place at all for us back there. We're really happy with how he worked well into defence, he had some really nice disposals, he's a beautiful kick on both sides of the foot. He showed us some good signs on what he can provide in the future."
Josh Ward (7 disposals)
"Wardy unfortunately got injured after quarter time and couldn't take any further place in the game. But in the first quarter he was really energetic and exciting around the footy."
