Hawthorn stalwarts Luke Breust and Liam Shiels say this weekend marks an "extra special" point in their career.

On the cusp of sharing their 250th game milestone games when they run out against Collingwood on Sunday, the three-time premiership pair agreed it was an honour to be celebrating the day with each other.

"It makes the day extra special that I get to share it with my good mate Luke," Shiels said.

"We've obviously been through a lot together, having got drafted in the same year back in 2008. We shared a lot of success together in the early days and we've developed into great friends off the field as well."

"It's awesome the way it has panned out to be able to play it together," Breust said.

"You look at the start of the year and we had Ben McEvoy as well who was due to play his 250th so you start to pencil a few rounds in that it might fall on so then for it to work out that we're playing together is just awesome."
