Hawthorn will be searching for its fifth win of the season when it meets GWS in Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

Sitting 14th and 15th respectively with 4-10 records, both teams enter the game evenly matched.

The Hawks have won three of their last four against the Giants, including their most recent meeting in Round 15 of last year where they took home a three goal victory.

But despite the sold recent record against GWS, Hawthorn has never won at Giants Stadium from its six attempts.

In some positive news, the Hawks will be boosted by the return of All-Australian forward Jack Gunston and young gun Will Day for the match.

Last time we met

Hawthorn (90) defeated GWS Giants (72) - Round 15, 2021

Hawthorn took on the GWS Giants in a match which was marked by Denver Grainger-Barras' debut.

The first quarter was played on the Giant's terms with the Hawk’s only scoring two goals. With a string of powerful efforts, leading 15-12 in intercept marks, the Hawks were able to seize the momentum in the second term.

The battle was set in the last quarter with the margin sitting at just three points at the third quarter break. The brown and gold came out on top, defeating the Giants by 18 points.

Jack Scrimshaw and Will Day were crucial for the side, both recording 28 disposals and a combined 19 intercepts.

Dylan Moore scored a career-high four goals, while Daniel Howe, James Worpel, Tim O’Brien and Tom Mitchell also were prolific for the side.

Our last game

Western Bulldogs (125) defeated Hawthorn (83)

The Western Bulldogs booted 13 goals in a row to steamroll a fast-starting Hawthorn to a comfortable 42-point victory at Marvel Stadium last Friday night.

Despite the Hawks' speedy start - which saw them pile on 20 points before the Dogs had a sniff of a score - the brown and gold struggled to keep up with the Dogs in the second and third quarters.

Hawthorn could have gone into its shell in the fourth quarter, but instead finally broke the Dogs' run of 13 goals and continued to play with dare out of defence.

Jack Scrimshaw stood up under enormous pressure for Hawthorn, taking 12 marks to go with his 26 disposals, while James Worpel (25 and seven clearances) battled hard against one of the deepest midfields in the competition.

Mitch Lewis finished with four goals, while Luke Breust kicked three.
