Hawthorn will play its last MCG home game for 2022 when it hosts West Coast on Sunday.

The match will be full of important moments for Hawks fans, including the return of the lap of honour in celebration of premiership stars Grant Birchall, Jordan Lewis, Ben Stratton and Paul Puopolo.

The recognition provides a farewell that the COVID-19 ravaged seasons prevented, allowing fans to finally show their appreciation for the role they played in the history of the club.

This game also marks the Dare to Hope Match in honour of former Hawthorn premiership player and 1991 Norm Smith Medallist Paul Dear.

Dear, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020, sadly passed away last week.

The game will be dedicated to him, raising much-needed awareness and funds for the Dare to Hope: Paul Dear Pancreatic Cancer Fund.

Hawthorn will also host its Inclusion Match this round, celebrating all people in the inclusive football space.

The match provides an opportunity to empower people of all abilities to ensure they feel included and make football a safe, supportive and fun environment.

There will be a range of activations on the day, including a pre-game Blind AusKick Clinic and  Inclusion Project staff welcoming patrons.

Last time we met

West Coast Eagles (98) defeated Hawthorn (60) - Round 8, 2021

The game started with the first goalless opening quarter at the MCG in 50 years, before the Eagles fought back with a seven-goal second quarter.

The Hawks struggled to move the ball into their forward half, with the Eagles too strong on the day, extending their lead each break to win by 38 points.

Tom Mitchell was crucial in the midfield with a game-high 41 disposals, including 17 contested, and six clearances.

James Worpel offered his teammate ample support, recording 27 disposals, six clearances and two goals.

Jarman Impey, Blake Hardwick, and Jack Scrimshaw were also amongst the side's best.

Our last game

Hawthorn (86) defeated Adelaide Crows (54)

The Hawks ended a five-game losing streak with a comfortable win over Adelaide by 32 points at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Hawthorn made a fast start under the roof at Docklands, kicking six goals to one in an opening quarter onslaught that never allowed the Crows to be within striking distance after quarter time.

But the Crows didn't give up without a whimper. They kicked the first three goals of the second half and held Hawthorn goalless in the third quarter to reach the final change with a pulse.

The Hawks however managed to hold on with a strong fourth quarter effort, taking home a 32-point win.
