Hawthorn Football Club is deeply saddened to lean of the passing of long-time Thornbird and member Yvonne Angwin.

Yvonne was a driving force behind the creation of Hawthorn’s in-house ladies group in 1979 called The Thornbirds.

Selflessly, Yvonne was among the key organisers for countless Hawthorn social events and fundraisers.

Yvonne shared her deep love for the brown and gold with her beloved late husband, and former player, Andy Angwin.

The pair, who met and married in 1955, for many years would wash and mend the guernseys and sew on the logos and numbers.

"Yvonne was always working behind the scenes, supporting players and staff to set the foundation for today's Thornbirds," current Thornbird President Lyn Sutton said.

"We are grateful for all she did, and we carry her legacy with immense pride."

Hawthorn extends its sincere condolences to Yvonne’s family and close friends at this difficult time.
