Young gun Jai Newcombe has capped off a remarkable 2022 campaign by taking out Hawthorn’s overall fan-voted MVP award.

Newcombe earned an incredible six MVP honours over the course of the year, including four nods in the first half of the season.

The 21-year-old, who received his NAB Rising Star nomination in Round 5, has been one of the Hawks most consistent contributors this season, averaging 22.5 disposals, 3.9 clearances, 4.3 marks and 4.6 tackles per game.

Possessing a powerful and penetrating kick, Newcombe also ranks 20th in the league for metres gained to go with his fearless attack on the contest and underrated outside game.

A mainstay in the midfield, Newcombe was one of four Hawks to feature in all 22 matches in 2022, alongside Dylan Moore, James Sicily and Blake Hardwick.

It was just last week that the youngster was named the AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player for 2022.

Powerhouse forward Mitch Lewis finished in second place with four accolades to his name, while last year’s MVP winner Tom Mitchell deservedly claimed third spot with three.
