It was a disappointing day at Box Hill with Hawthorn going down to St Kilda, but a few young players shone in the club’s first AFLW home game.
Following the early loss of Tamara Luke, Lucy Wales proved she was capable of shouldering the ruck duties. The 19-year-old finished with 14 hit-outs to go with 12 touches and four clearances.
Emerging midfielder Jasmine Fleming also recorded four clearances to complement her 10 disposals in another promising display.
Fellow draftee Charlotte Baskaran worked herself into the game with eight disposals and three tackles while playing a few different roles on-field.
The shining light was 22-year-old Tamara Smith who was the equal third leading disposal-getter on the ground with 16. She also added six tackles and three clearances to her tally, backing up a solid Round 1 performance of 14 disposals, nine tackles and six clearances.
Rounding out the stat sheet stuffers was Tilly Lucas-Rodd. The Hawthorn captain had another stellar performance as the leading disposal-getter, tackler and clearance winner. She finished with 21 touches, 13 tackles and five clearances.
