Luke Breust has locked in his future with Hawthorn, signing an extension that will see him remain a Hawk until at least the end of 2024.

Breust was already contracted for the upcoming 2023 season, but the three-time premiership forward has put to bed any thought of him finishing his career at a rival club, instead setting his sights on a 14th and 15th season in the brown and gold.

The 31-year-old remains one of the most dangerous small forwards in the competition, finishing with 40 goals this year in what was the seventh campaign of his career in which he has passed that 40-goal threshold.

The impressive tally was good enough to earn the New South Wales product his fourth club leading goalkicker award, all of which have come within the last five seasons.

Good for 14^th on Hawthorn’s all-time games tally, Breust’s 260 career matches make him the most experienced player on the Hawks’ list ahead of the 2023 season - while his 481 goals see him sit seventh on the club’s goalkicking ranks historically.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said the club was delighted to secure Breust’s services for the next two years.

“Luke’s value to the club is immeasurable. While he is still playing at a high level on-field, his willingness to educate and mentor our younger players has been equally valuable,” McKenzie said.

“We’re very pleased that he has been quick to confirm his commitment to the club’s future, which we think is a broader reflection of how the playing group feels about the direction we are going.
