Young gun Jai Newcombe has added to his impressive 2022 break-out campaign, finishing as Hawthorn's leading vote-getter in a thrilling Brownlow Medal count on Sunday night.

The 21-year-old polled a total of 11 votes across six games in what was just his second season after being taken at Pick 2 in the 2021 NAB AFL Mid-Season Draft.

In a season that yielded eight wins, Newcombe was the only Hawk to reach double digits to finish equal 14th on the overall leaderboard, alongside the likes of Nick Daicos, Charlie Curnow and Jack McCrae.

Newcombe finished ahead of 2018 Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell who collected nine votes across six games, with James Sicily rounding out the top three for the Hawks on seven votes.

Jack Gunston polled three votes in Round 19 when he kicked five goals on return following two weeks off after the sudden passing of his father, Ray.

After producing a three-vote game in the final round of the season, Carlton's Patrick Cripps overtook Brisbane's Lachie Neale to storm home to claim his first Brownlow Medal.
