Hawthorn's Peter Crimmins Medallist for 2022 has been determined, with star defender James Sicily taking out his first club best and fairest honour.

In what was a thrilling finish to the count, Sicily ended the season with 123 votes, eight ahead of runner-up Jai Newcombe (115) while Dylan Moore (113) finished in third place.

Newcombe was leading the count with just one round to go before Sicily overtook the youngster following a career-best 33-disposal performance in Round 23 against the Western Bulldogs.

The trio made up the top three for the majority of the count, all displaying fast starts to their respective campaigns before continuing their momentum throughout the season.

Blake Hardwick’s campaign was rewarded with a fourth-place finish, while Tom Mitchell – the reigning 2021 winner – produced a strong end to the year which saw him claim the final spot in the top five.

It marks the closest finish to the club’s count since 2020, when Mitchell held off Jack Gunston by a narrow six votes to take out the award.
