Karl Amon has become the second Hawk to join the Indigenous All Stars squad ahead of the highly anticipated one-off match later this month.
Amon, a proud Noonuccal man, joins his Hawthorn teammate and proud Yorta Yorta man Jarman Impey in receiving selection in the star-studded team to play Fremantle on Saturday 15 February at Optus Stadium.
Since making his AFL debut in 2015, Amon has played 170 games at the highest level, including 46 in Hawthorn colours.
In recent years, the now 29-year-old leader has established himself as a prominent First Nations role model, both on and off the field.
"It's a game I've always wanted to play in, and young days I didn't get an opportunity, but for it to come back and make a return is really proud for myself and my family to represent my people on the highest stage," Amon said.
"I remember watching it as a young kid, the likes of Buddy Franklin and others, and to be part of it is going to be a really special moment.
"My people come from North Stradboke Island, which is a small community and I hope they will be watching on game day."
Amon will link up with fellow defender and First Nations teammate Jarman Impey in the squad, with the pair sharing a special bond.
"We've been playing together since we were 15, so it's going to be a great moment for us to run out in the guernsey," Amon said.
"So obviously looking forward to playing alongisde him and other All Stars around the league as well."
It will be the first time an Indigenous All Stars squad has taken to the field since 2015, with a new generation of First Nations stars set to shine on the big stage.
"Hopefully this can be an annual or every two years event that we can really make it gel and come together as a commmunity and represent our people."
