Season summary:

Despite turning 31 last off-season, Bruest was among Hawthorn’s most durable players in season 2022, missing just one game.

The straight-shooter set the pace in attack for the Hawks to finish the season as the club’s leading goal-kicker with 40 majors.

His goal-per-game average of just shy of two ended up being his best return in front of goal since 2018.

This season was also made sweeter by the special milestone he reached in Round 12 when he played his 250th game at the MCG.

Best AFL game:

Breust wound back the clock against the West Coast Eagles in Round 19, booting a career-high six majors in the Hawks 25-point win at the MCG. He finished with 15 possessions, including five inside 50s.

How the coaches saw him:

“Luke showed another quality year where he was able to combine some great contested work and pressure in the front half with an uncanny knack of finding the goals. To finish with 40+ goals as a small forward is no mean feat and Luke has been doing this year on year for as long as we can recall. He is always in the top echelon of smalls and his ability to crumb the contest and always bob up in the right spot was something to behold.” – David Hale
