Jack Saunders will depart Hawthorn after the club informed the small forward he will not be offered a contract for the 2023 season.

The 20-year-old South Australian joined the Hawks with Pick 4 in the 2021 rookie draft.

Saunders went on to play one game in the brown and gold, debuting in the final round of the 2022 season against the Western Bulldogs.

In farewelling Saunders, Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie thanked him for his contribution.

“Jack has been a great character and teammate during his time at the club,” McKenzie said.

“While these sorts of list changes are necessary at this part of the year, we acknowledge it is a difficult time for those involved.

“We would like to thank Jack for his service and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

It comes as Hawthorn ended a bumper trade and free agency period on Wednesday night, after making three quality additions, on top of securing further draft picks.

Former Port Adelaide wingman Karl Amon headlines the list, joining the Hawks as a free agent.

Ready-made ruckman Lloyd Meek and big-bodied midfielder Cooper Stephens also made the switch from Fremantle and Geelong respectively.

Hawthorn now holds picks 6, 24, 41, 48, 50, 52 and 65 in next month’s national draft, while the club also secured an additional future second-round and future fourth-round pick.
