Box Hill Hawks star forward Fergus Greene has signed with Hawthorn ahead of the 2023 season.
Greene has committed to the Hawks on a one-year deal through the Delisted Player Free Agency Period, which opened on Thursday.
The 24-year-old, who was Box Hill’s leading goalkicker this year, started his AFL career with the Western Bulldogs following the 2016 national draft.
Greene departed the Bulldogs at the end of 2020, having played five games since making his debut in 2018.
Ahead of the 2021 season, he joined Box Hill where he booted 30 goals from his nine appearances that season.
He followed that with another impressive 2022 campaign where he finished as the second highest goalkicker in the league, with 53 majors to his name from 17 games.
Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said the club was extremely pleased to welcome Greene.
"We’re really thrilled to have secured the services of Ferg, he’s an exciting player with a lot of potential," McKenzie said.
“We identified we needed more forward line support, and Ferg's attributes suit the way Sam and our coaching group want to play.
“With some exposure already at AFL level and a really impressive two seasons in the VFL, we believe Ferg will be a great fit for our young and developing group.”
Greene becomes the fourth player from Box Hill that has joined Hawthorn’s senior list in the last two years, joining Jai Newcombe, Lachlan Bramble and James Blanck.
