Hawthorn has honoured two long-serving people of the club with life membership at the club’s Annual General Meeting held at the Hawthorn Town Hall on Tuesday night.
Bob Keddie, a 1971 premiership Hawk, and Russell Marshall, the long-time curator of Glenferrie Oval, both received the honour on a night where their service to the club was recognised.
Keddie joined the Hawks in 1965, making an instant impact on his new surrounds as he took out the club’s best and fairest awards in 1967 and 1969. He also earned All Australian honours in 1969.
Alongside legendary Hawthorn goalkicker Peter Hudson, Keddie formed a potent pairing that spearheaded the Hawks to a premiership in 1971, just the second in the club’s history.
Following his eighth season in the brown and gold in 1972, after 132 games and 195 goals, Keddie crossed to West Adelaide in the SANFL competition to take up a captain-coaching role.
Marshall was the head curator of Glenferrie Oval for an incredible 26 years, from September 1977 to September 2003.
An immensely popular figure amongst players and staff, Marshall built a reputation as someone who was always willing to go above and beyond his employed duties.
Often using his own car or trailer, Marshall would often help new recruits move into lodgings between lugging his green-keeping equipment back and forth.
