Hawthorn has secured the signature of yet another young Hawk, with small forward Sam Butler inking a two-year contract extension.

The 20-year-old’s new deal locks him in as a Hawk until at least the end of 2025, having only completed his debut season last year.

Through just nine games for the brown and gold Butler showcased his slick crumbing and goal kicking ability, which saw him boot six majors in a strong sign for the future.

Butler joins fellow 2021 draftee Josh Ward as the latest youngster to commit his future to Hawthorn, as the club continues to solidify its strong developing list.

National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said Butler’s extension was an important one, with the talented youngster among the most exciting prospects at the club.

“We’re thrilled to see Butsy sign on with the brown and gold, we believe he can provide some real excitement for Hawthorn fans in the years to come,” McKenzie said.

“As far as young forwards go, Butsy has all the traits to develop into a top-line player – he has impressive speed and is a strong competitor.

“It’s pleasing that Butsy sees his future here at Hawthorn, he is another one of our core young Hawks that we believe can help deliver the success our members and supporters deserve.”
