Hawthorn’s 2023 AFLW fixture has been revealed, with the Hawks set to open up the season at home against old rivals, Essendon on Saturday 2 September.

The scintillating match-up is one of four games at Frankston’s Kinetic Stadium this season, with the Hawks set to also face Melbourne, Brisbane and Port Adelaide at the iconic venue.

The Hawks are also thrilled to build on their partnership with the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland, Cairns Regional Council and AFL Cairns by travelling to Cairns’ Cazalys Stadium in Round 8 to play Richmond, which forms part of Indigenous Round.

Round 10 is one to bookmark, as Hawthorn takes on Geelong for the first time in the club’s AFLW history as part of Pride Round.

Rounding out the fixture are trips to Mars Stadium in Round 2, Fremantle Oval in Round 3, RSEA Park in Round 6 and Henson Park in Round 7.

Hawthorn Acting CEO Ash Klein said Hawthorn’s fixture was an exciting one.

“Our 2023 AFLW fixture is a big win for our brown and gold family,” he said.

“Frankston became a bit of a fortress for us last season and we hope to continue that trend with four games there in Rounds 1, 4, 5 and 9 this season.

“We’re also delighted to have our fixture bookended by blockbuster clashes against traditional rivals Essendon in Round 1 and Geelong in Round 10.

“We know the Hawks community are right behind this team and we can’t wait to see them pack the stands from September 2.”

Having just come off an excellent pre-season camp in Cairns, Klein was ecstatic to build on the club’s partnership with the region by playing a showpiece game against Richmond at Cazalys Stadium in October.

“We are delighted to take the next step in our partnership with the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland, Cairns Regional Council and AFL Cairns by hosting an AFLW blockbuster game against Richmond at Cazalys Stadium,” Klein said.

“We know the Cairns community are passionate about our game and we look forward to seeing them come out in droves to support the brown and gold.

“We also hope to see our members and fans travel up to the region and experience the sites and surroundings of Northern Queensland, enjoy the warm October weather and get behind our AFLW team.

“As a club, we are committed to growing the game and getting more women and girls involved, and there’s no better way to do this than by showcasing our sport at the elite level in a fantastic region like Cairns.”
