Last time we met

Richmond (128) defeated Hawthorn (67) - Round 22, 2022

It was a disappointing day for the Hawks, with Richmond proving far too strong for the brown and gold thanks to an eight-goal haul from Tom Lynch.

The Tigers jumped out of the blocks to open up a 31-point quarter-time lead with 21-6 inside 50s with 5-1 centre clearances.

Hawthorn responded in the second, getting the edge in contested possessions (38-36) to enjoy plenty of territory but was left to rue missed opportunities, managing 7-3 marks inside 50 but kicking 3.4 for the term.

Richmond showed no mercy in the third quarter, despite losing the inside 50 count 14-13, with its ruthless efficiency leading to nine goals, including eight in a row.

Hawks tagger Finn Maginness claimed another scalp, restricting Shai Bolton to 13 disposals, while veteran forward Luke Breust finished with two goals.

Jai Newcombe (29 disposals) and James Sicily tried hard for the Hawks, with Sicily relishing some midfield opportunity collecting 18 first-half disposals for 444 metres gained, before finishing with 30 touches with nine marks.

Hawthorn flicked the switch after half-time to kick nine of the eleven second-half goals to cruise to the convincing victory.

The match saw James Worpel dominate in the middle, finishing with 32 disposals, 12 contested possessions, seven clearances, 702 metres gained and a goal.

Karl Amon was impressive on the outside with 33 disposals, 813 metres gained and a goal, while Jai Newcombe went to work on the inside, finishing with 33 touches, 14 contested possessions and seven clearances.
