Having only arrived at Hawthorn two months ago, mid-season draftee Brandon Ryan has been named to make his AFL debut against St Kilda on Sunday.

Ryan was selected at Pick 12 in this year's mid-season rookie draft after catching the eye of recruiters on the back of an impressive campaign with the Northern Bullants across the first half of the VFL season.

The 200cm mature-age key forward from Barwon Heads has dominated at VFL level for both the Bullants and more recently with Box Hill, averaging 2.1 goals, 13.4 disposals and 5.3 marks per game this year.

General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said Ryan's call-up comes following a promising first few months at the club.

“First games are always special, but Brandon being a 25-year-old who never gave up on a dream to play at this level, adds something extra to the occasion,” McCartney said.

“Recently selected in the mid-season draft Brandon has impressed for Box Hill, his aerial strength and forward craft providing multiple shots on goal each week.

"It will no doubt be a special day for Brandon, his family and friends on Sunday at Marvel."

Ryan will become Hawthorn's sixth AFL debutant this season, featuring alongside Seamus Mitchell, Josh Weddle, Cam Mackenzie, Bailey Macdonald and Max Ramsden.

Hawthorn will release its full Round 20 team tonight at 5pm on www.hawthornfc.com.au and across its InstagramTwitter and Facebook.
