Last time we met
Fremantle (117) defeated Hawthorn (48), Round 8
Fremantle's Nat Fyfe made a successful return from injury as the Dockers secured a big win over Hawthorn when these two teams met earlier this year.
The Hawks dominated the midfield early, but later faded, conceded 12 of the last 15 goals of the game.
Will Day (26 disposals and seven clearances) continued to shine in his midfield role, while James Worpel (25 and six) and Connor Nash (26 and eight) were also influential in the early battles.
Fremantle managed to get out to a 13-point lead following the first term, but the Hawks still dominated clearances (13-6) and showed an ability to move the ball efficiently from their back half.
When Mitch Lewis marked in the opening minute of the second quarter and converted his set shot, the margin was seven points and the Hawks were in a position to pounce, given their midfield ascendency.
But Fremantle turned the screws in a dominant third quarter, putting the game to bed with four unanswered goals that ultimately set them up for the win.
Our last game
Melbourne (87) defeated Hawthorn (60) - Round 23
After an impressive fortnight which saw it notch wins against Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, the Hawks battled hard against another top opposition in Melbourne but couldn't get the job done.
Hawthorn got within six points after Dylan Moore goaled 30 seconds into the final term, but that was as close as they would get, with the Demons running away to win.
It was a grind for much of the contest as Hawthorn fought valiantly despite the late out of red-hot midfielder Jai Newcombe (hamstring tightness).
The Hawks owned possession for large chunks of the first quarter and kicked three of the game's first four goals.
Debutant Henry Hustwaite gave them a six-point lead at the first change with a calm set shot from 35m after he clamped Rivers to win a holding the ball decision.
Melbourne swiftly upped its intensity in the second term to take a two-point lead at the main break before continuing to tighten its grip on the match after half time.
James Worpel (30 disposals, 10 clearances) and Conor Nash (26 and nine clearances) carried a big midfield load in Newcombe's absence.
Meanwhile, Hustwaite finished with 15 disposals and five tackles to go with his two goals in an excellent first outing.
