Hawthorn Football Club has averaged more than 50,000 fans at the MCG this season for the first time since its three-peat era.

Averaging a crowd of 50,133 per MCG home game in 2023, the Hawks have attracted fans to games at a rate that hasn't been seen since it won its 2015 premiership.

With a total of 300,800 in attendance across the club's six MCG home games this year, attendance has increased by 34 per cent compared to 2022.

The 68,691 who attended the club's 2023 season opener against Essendon made up the largest Hawthorn crowd since Sam Mitchell took over the reins as coach. 

It comes as the club ticked over 80,000 members for the second consecutive year - achieving 80,698 members for 2023 - which includes the club's loyal Tasmania, interstate and international members.

Hawthorn Acting CEO Ash Klein said he was blown away by the ongoing support of the club’s dedicated members.

“We are extremely grateful to have our members and fans support us the way they do week, after week,” Klein said.

"The passion they show and the atmosphere they create at our matches is so special, the players can really feel their presence at every game. 

“We can’t thank our loyal members enough for coming on the journey with us, their unwavering support means so much to everyone at the club.

“Clubs are nothing without their members and we know each and every one of them plays a pivotal role in our pursuit for success both on and off the field.

“With a young, exciting and talented list of players, I hope our members are as excited as we are to see where this journey takes us next in 2024.”

The Hawks will host their AFLW season opener this Saturday, when they take on Essendon at Kinetic Stadium in Frankston.
