Hawthorn ruck Lucy Wales is a test to play her first game of the season on Sunday against the Western Bulldogs at Mars Stadium, Ballarat.

Wales missed the Hawks’ Round 1 clash with Essendon due to a bone stress injury but AFLW High Performance Manager Olivia Knowles said she is tracking well towards a return.

“At both of our trainings, she’ll undergo fitness tests and hopefully be available to play this week,” Knowles said.

Meanwhile, Tamara Smith picked up a shoulder injury in Saturday night’s loss to Essendon.

Although the midfielder is already missing this week due to suspension, she could also miss another week through injury.

“Tam had an incident where she sustained a low-grade AC joint injury, so she’ll just need one to two weeks to let that settle,” Knowles said.

“She’ll hopefully be available in a couple of weeks.”

Elsewhere, Tegan Cunningham has suffered an unfortunate setback and is set to spend an extended period on the sidelines.

“Unfortunately, Tegan sustained a hamstring strain that will see her out for about five to six weeks,” Knowles said.

“It’s a really unfortunate result for Tegan especially given the work she had undergone during the off-season, rehabbing a foot injury.

“She’s obviously got all the support behind her from the players, the staff and the club.

“We can’t wait to see her back in action in a month or so.”
