Eastern Ranges winger Hayley McLaughlin has joined Hawthorn as part of the AFLW Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Pre-Signing Period.
McLaughlin joins Ranges teammates Laura Stone and Jess Vukic as the club’s newest recruits, having all put pen to paper to join the Hawks ahead of the 2024 season.
The 17-year-old featured in 15 games for the Eastern Ranges this season, averaging 19.1 disposals, 3.8 marks and 3.3 tackles.
The talented winger then went on to make her VFLW debut with Box Hill at just 17 years old, averaging 9.5 disposals and two tackles in her two appearances, impressing with her outstanding ball use.
She also earned Vic Metro selection and was ranked among the team’s best players in their 16-point win over Vic Country.
Hawthorn AFLW List Manager Mitchell Cashion was thrilled to have McLaughlin join the Hawks.
“Hayley is a really exciting prospect who will add some extra outside run and ball skills for us on the wing,” Cashion said.
“With Akec Makur Chuot hanging up the boots, she will have a fantastic opportunity alongside the likes of Kaitlyn Ashmore and another developing winger in Charlotte Baskaran.
“Hayley’s strengths are her decision-making, poise and endurance and we can’t wait to see all those attributes on display at the Hawks from next season.”
McLaughlin’s signature completes Hawthorn’s pre-signing period haul, with the 17-year-old, Stone and Vukic all committing to the club for the 2024 season.
