2024 jumper numbers revealed

Several Hawks are set to don new jumper numbers in season 2024.

Returning star Jack Gunston, young gun Josh Weddle and exciting recruit Jack Ginnivan are three of nine Hawks who will be the custodians of new jumper numbers in 2024.

After making his return to the club following the 2023 trade period, Gunston will again take ownership of the number 19 jumper in which he played 211 games, including three premierships, and booted 410 goals in during his time in the brown and gold.

Ginnivan will continue his career donning the number 33, once made famous at Hawthorn by four-time premiership star Cyril Rioli.

Meanwhile, Weddle is the only current Hawk to switch numbers ahead of next year, making the switch from 37 to 23 - famously worn by superstar Lance Franklin.

Of the other recruits, dashing utility Massimo D'Ambrosio will slip into the number 16, while key forward Mabior Chol will take the reins over for number 18.

The crop of 2023 draftees have also received their first guernsey numbers in the brown and gold, with Nick Watson (34), Will McCabe (27), Bodie Ryan (26) and Calsher Dear (35) rounding out the number allocations.

16 - Massimo D'Ambrosio

After crossing over from Essendon during the recent trade period, new recruit D'Ambrosio will begin his time in the brown and gold donning the number 16.

The digit was once worn by star Isaac Smith, who played 210 games in the brown and gold across nine seasons.

Other notable Hawks to have featured in the number 16 include Terry Wallace (174 games), Leo Murphy (132 games), Lance Wilkinson (116 games), Norm Bussell (113 games) and now Hawthorn President Andrew Gowers (89 games).

18 - Mabior Chol

After wearing number 1 at Gold Coast across his last two seasons, Chol will now look to make a mark at his new club wearing the number 18.

Previous Hawks to don the number include the likes of Darrin Pritchard (211 games), Brent Guerra (159 games) and Jonathon Ceglar (101 games).

19 - Jack Gunston

Following a season at Brisbane, Gunston will make his return to the brown and gold by inheriting his old number.

Before crossing to the Lions in 2023, the 32-year-old chalked up 211 games, including three premierships, while booting 410 goals when wearing the number 19.

Former Hawks Jason Dunstall (269 games), Ted Pool (200 games), Alan Goad (138 games) and Bill Pavey (100 games) also once wore the jumper.

23 - Josh Weddle

While Weddle began to establish a name for himself in the number 37, the impressive youngster will continue his career donning one of Hawthorn’s most iconic numbers.

The 19-year-old has taken the leap from number 37 to 23 off the back of a season where he claimed the club's Most Promising Player.

Several famous Hawks including Don Scott (302 games), John Peck (213 games), Dermott Brereton (189 games), Lance Franklin (182 games), Ted Fletcher (129 games) and Nathan Thompson (119 games) were once custodians of the number.

26 - Bodie Ryan

Ryan will kickstart his career in the brown and gold wearing the number 26, joining an impressive list of well-known brown and gold figures to don the number.

Forward Fergus Greene donned the number in 2022.

Four-time premiership Hawk Rodney Eade (229 games) forms part of the 100-plus game players at the club to pull on the number 26.

27 - Will McCabe

McCabe, the son of former Hawk and now Football Director Luke McCabe, will begin his career in the brown and gold by wearing the number 27 on his back.

David Parkin (211 games), Roy Simmonds (192 games) and John Barker (113 games) feature among the Hawks to have once called the number 27 their own.

33 - Jack Ginnivan

Exciting recruit Ginnivan will inherent the number 33 jumper - the same digits he wore during his three seasons at Collingwood, including most recently this year in the Pies premiership win.

Four-time premiership star Cyril Rioli (189 games) made the number 33 famous following an impressive 10-year career which saw him achieve a long list of accolades including three All Australian selections, and a Norm Smith Medal in Hawthorn's 2015 premiership win.

Other 50-plus game Hawks to pull on the number 33 include Kris Barlow (102 games) and Geoff Angus (73 games).

34 - Nick Watson

After arriving to the club as Pick 5 following this year's draft, Watson will look to fledge his career at the club wearing the number 34.

John Kennedy Jnr (241 games), Bruce Stevenson (72 games), Brent Renouf (52 games) feature among the Hawks to have established their careers while wearing the digit.

35 - Calsher Dear

Father-son draftee Calsher Dear, who's dad Paul Dear played 123 games at the club, will take on the number 35.

Hawthorn's 50-game plus players to wear the number include James Morrissey (106 games), Harold Albiston (62 games) and Adrian Cox (54 games).
