Two important Hawks are on track to be available for selection ahead of the club's Round 1 match against Essendon on Saturday.
Co-vice captain Dylan Moore will be a test for the opening clash after developing glandular fever in mid-February.
Moore has spent the last month on the sidelines, but has built his fitness up in recent weeks.
In further good news, young gun Seamus Mitchell is set to be available for the weekend after fracturing his jaw during a match simulation earlier this pre-season.
Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge said the duo had made some positive strides over the last week to put them in a strong position heading into Round 1.
"Both have had a great last week, they fully trained on the weekend and this morning (Tuesday)," Burge explained.
"Seamus will definitely be available for the weekend, while Dylan has one more session to get through as well... but it's all really positive at this stage, but we'll make a final call on Thursday (come team selection)."
Meanwhile, key forward Jack Gunston, young gun Josh Weddle and utility Harry Morrison are also expected to all be available for selection after missing the recent AAMI Community Series game against the Western Bulldogs in Launceston.
Second-year Hawk Bailey Macdonald is also moving closer to his return, with the 19-year-old on track to be available ahead of the club's Round 2 game against Melbourne.
"It has been great seeing Bailey train with the group for the past week, seeing him with the ball in hand, accelerating and running, doing what he does best," Burge said.
"We're just giving him a fortnight of full team training, given he was out for period of time and as a young player."
Midfielder Cooper Stephens has resumed main training after suffering an achilles injury.
"Towards the end of January and early February, he was having some issues completing some sessions, so we just had to take a step back and build some strength work in the gym and slowly progress his conditioning," Burge explained.
"In the past week and a half, he's been able to build back into team training, and we're looking potentially at Round 2 next week at some game time."
Defender Changkuoth Jiath is expected to return in around 4-5 weeks after injuring his hamstring last month.
"He's tracking along really well, he's doing plenty of running at good speed," Burge said.
"We're three and a half weeks from the original injury, given the nature of the injury and the location there is a higher occurrence rate with that type of injury
"This injury was more in a location that we needed to respect as there is a higher occurrence rate with that, so hence the 7-8 weeks overall timeline.
"He'll get a number of weeks of good training under his belt, and a number of weeks of team football conditioning before we actually look at some game time around Round 4 or Round 5."
Meanwhile, reigning best and fairest winner Will Day is set to undergo one final scan before a more definitive timeline is determined for his return to play.
"Will had a scan last week which was super positive and allowed us to take the step of running on the Alter G treadmill which we'll do for two weeks which is really important," Burge added
"He's now got another critical scan next week which will absolutely give us the final tick off to start resuming some running outside on grass.
"From there we need to go through a re-conditioning phase with him before we move into football, but we'll have a more definitive timeline and round return once we've had that scan.
"At this stage, he's back running and conditioning, and it's exciting, we're looking forward to that progressing and moving to the next phase."
Veteran forward Chad Wingard is also continuing his positive trajectory forward off the back of his achilles injury, expected to return to team training next week.
"Contrary to some information that was floating around last week, which wasn't correct, we've always targeted Round 8 as Chad's return," Burge explained.
"Given the nature of the injury, in terms of how he was tracking he was probably ahead of schedule, but it doesn't mean we're going to move his weeks forward.
"He is returning to team football training one week from now which is exciting, and he'll have multiple weeks of that before we consider any game time."
Young forward Jack O'Sullivan will spend some time on the sidelines due to a foot injury.
"He developed a bit of plantar fasciitis during around the time of our pre-season camp in February," Burge said.
"We thought it would resolve itself pretty quickly, but it's just taken a little longer than we would've liked.
"We've started him back outside again running straight lines on grass, we're probably looking at a 3-4 week block now to get him back into match play."
