Lively Hawk Jack Ginnivan says singing his new club's song for the first time on the weekend following the win against North Melbourne was a ‘childhood dream complete’.
Speaking to Triple M’s Rush Hour on Tuesday, Ginnivan said it was surreal moment after having supported Hawthorn since he was a kid.
“It felt really weird, I was standing next to Jack Gunston who I always used to watch sing the song – so there were a few little butterflies,” Ginnivan reflected.
“It was nice to sing the song (for the first time) – childhood dream complete.”
An avid Hawks fan growing up, Ginnivan often made his way to Waverley Park to watch the players train alongside his Dad.
He pointed to several players in the brown and gold who he looked up to in his earlier years, including a now teammate.
“I loved Will Langford and Taylor Duryea,” Ginnivan added.
“Then obviously Luke Breust as a small forward, he is someone I’ve idolised my game around so it’s so good to rub shoulders with him now too.”
Ginnivan has slotted in seamlessly since landing at the Hawks on the final day of last year’s trade period after crossing over from Collingwood.
Hawthorn’s attacking game style is something that Ginnivan is relishing being apart of.
Across his six games so far this year, Ginnivan has averaged 14.2 disposals, 4.2 marks and 1.2 goals a game.
He currently sits equal-second on the club's goalkicking tally with eight majors to his name, tied with fellow recruit Mabior Chol, just featuring below co-vice captain Dylan Moore who has 11.
“It’s been a crazy six months transitioning houses, clubs, making new friends and all these things, but I’m loving it to bits,” Ginnivan said.
“I’ve been loving my time at the Hawks, definitely alongside Sam Mitchell as well.
“We’ve bonded really well, we’re very similar characters I think, we love being cheeky and take a few drive by comments to each other.
“He texted me after the game saying I played really well – its always good to get a message from the coach, to have that reassurance that you’re playing alright.”
