Hawthorn will unveil its third debutant this weekend, with mature-age recruit Ethan Phillips set to make his AFL debut.

As announced on Thursday, Phillips will play his first AFL game, while Changkuoth Jiath will make his long-awaited return after battling a string of injuries.

Key forward Mabior Chol rounds out the ins, while Jack Scrimshaw (suspended), Finn Maginness (omitted) and Jack Gunston (managed) will miss the game.

General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said Phillips' selection comes following some impressive form at VFL level.

“This is a great story of perseverance and never giving up on your dream of playing AFL footy – we are truly excited for Ethan to get his chance on Sunday," McCartney said.

"Ethan has played well at VFL level in the early part of the season. His form has been really strong showing he is a consistent performer in our defensive end, both in defending our goal and starting our attack through intercept marks.

"It’ll be a great day for Ethan and his family as he starts his journey as an AFL footballer."

After not playing an AFL game in more than a year, McCartney said the club was also thrilled to welcome back Jiath.

"Hawthorn fans, like all of us inside the club, are super excited to have Changkuoth returning to the AFL stage," McCartney said.

"He has had to display significant resilience through the early part of the season as he prepares his body for this opportunity.

"It is great to have him back playing and we see him only getting better as the season progresses."

Lastly, McCartney said Chol's inclusion would also provide an added boost in the Hawks attack.

"Mabior spent a short stint on the sidelines through injury and we look forward to him returning to the team and having a presence in the air in our forward half of the ground."

In other team news, Jarman Impey will captain the Hawks across the next fortnight ahead of Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

The game will begin at 3.20pm AEST and will be televised live on Fox and Kayo.
