Hawthorn defender Jarman Impey has spoken about the emotions behind being appointed captain of the club during Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
The 28-year-old was told the news by current skipper James Sicily in front of teammates and coaches this week and will now prepare to lead the side against Yartapuulti on Sunday and Brisbane next Sunday.

Speaking to FiveAA, Impey said he was excited to take on the highly coveted leadership role.
“It was a bit of a surprise but I’m absolutely over the moon,” he said.
“It’s going to be an exciting weekend against the old mob and Sir Doug Nicholls Round is always a great round.”
Impey also spoke about his time more generally at Hawthorn, currently playing his seventh season in brown and gold.
His on-field consistency has been a key reason behind his longevity but he is also a highly respected teammate who continues to lead the way in a young Hawthorn outfit.
The reliable defender said he was really enjoying his time as one of the club’s senior players.
“I just like helping out the younger players by trying to educate them and fast-track their career,” Impey said.
“I’ve been loving my time at Hawthorn and being part of the ‘Moorditj Kuda’, the leadership group, for the past few years.
“We’ve got a great group of young and talented kids who come into work and want to get better every day.”
That young group has now won back-to-back games, with the team going into Sunday’s clash at Adelaide Oval with a bit more confidence and belief.
A key driver in instilling those feelings among the playing group has been Senior Coach Sam Mitchell, who Impey loves working with.
“He’s very intelligent and he sees the game so well,” Impey said.
“He is a fierce competitor and he loves being out on the footy track and getting into drills as much as he can.
“With his coaching, he’s been awesome to deal with.
“He understands the ups and downs and where we’re at as a football club.
“He’s been awesome to work with and deal with.”
Hawthorn will aim to secure its third straight win when it goes head-to-head with Yartapuulti on Sunday afternoon at Adelaide Oval.
As captain, Impey will follow in the footsteps of Hawthorn great and First Nations trailblazer Chance Bateman, who was the first Indigenous player to captain the club during the AFL's Indigenous Round in 2007.
