Box Hill has suffered a disappointing defeat, falling short to Essendon by 10 points on Saturday afternoon at Windy Hill.
The Hawks came out of the blocks strong, maintaining clean disposals and efficiency within the opening quarter.
The first goal of the day came from Cassie Davidson, who snuck one through the big sticks within the opening 30 seconds of play.
Box Hill was able to trap the ball within its forward 50 throughout the first term and was dominant around the ground.
A turn of events in the second quarter saw Essendon take control of the game, leaving the Hawks struggling to transition the ball up the ground.
The Bombers were able to convert three majors on the scoreboard to the Hawks’ none, taking the lead away from a struggling Hawks outfit.
The same story persisted after the main break as Box Hill struggled to grapple with the intensity coming from the Bombers.
However, Box Hill was not going to leave without a fight and came out dominant in the final term.
Eastern Ranges product and Box Hill debutant Georgie Brisbane scored her first major in the Brown and Gold.
Soon after, Gabby Collingwood slotted her first of the day, lifting the momentum for the team and seeing the Hawks threaten to make a surge.
With majority of play being spent in the Hawks’ forward 50 this term, there was a clear shift in dominance that left Essendon scoreless for this quarter.
As a last-ditch effort, Caitlin Thorne booted a crafty goal right before the final siren.
However, unfortunately it was too little too late for the Hawks who ultimately fell short on the day.
Box Hill will now turn its sights to face Geelong next week at home commencing at 11:30am.
