Hawthorn forward Mitch Lewis is edging closer to a return to play, after he was listed as a test in this week's Nissan Injury Update.

Lewis joins ruck duo Lloyd Meek and Ned Reeves also under an injury cloud and needing to prove their fitness ahead of this weekend.

Mitch Lewis (knee) - Test

"Mitch has had some great progress in the last week and a half. He participated in some training at the end of last week, he had a great session on the weekend here in Melbourne while we were away and a lighter session today. We're anticipating him doing full training on Thursday. With that all going well, he'll play some game time on the weekend and we'll just work out what that looks like after Thursday."

Lloyd Meek (ankle) - Test

"He's definitely progressed over the weekend. He had a good session on Saturday and he looked good today. He did some change of direction, some agility and did one of our football drills. He'll do most of our training on Thursday and then we'll make a call on his selection for the weekend, but it's certainly more in the likely category the way it's looking."

Ned Reeves (back) - Test

"Ned copped a knock in his back and spasmed up significantly towards the end of the second quarter and at half-time, it was quite sore. It was pretty evident when we came out at three-quarter-time that he wasn't right to go and we subbed him out of the game. Right now, he's improved but he's still quite sore. He didn't train today. We've listed him as a test but he would need to improve significantly for us to consider him for the weekend."

Chad Wingard (calf) - 1 week

"It was quite a minor incident of calf soreness during the VFL game that he reported at half-time. We just made the call to withdraw him from the game. We will send him for a scan this week just to make sure that it is on the minor end. He's unlikely for this weekend but I would anticipate him returning straight after the bye."

Ethan Phillips (knee) - 1 week

"He actually went in and had a scope on his knee and they actually found a loose body in there, so a little bit of cartilage which was the cause of the issue, getting caught in his knee joint and probably moving around in various places. That was taken out and he feels a lot better already. He's feeling really good so this would be a quick turnaround and I would anticipate him playing after the bye."

Will McCabe (back) - 1 week

"Will's been going really well. He's a young first-year player coming back from a back injury. The back injury is fantastic. He's still adapting to training loads and whilst we've had some good sessions recently, we've had some where he's just pulled up a bit sore generally. We made the call today that we're going to delay his return until after the bye, which might be a little bit frustrating but he is a first-year player and it's really important that we make sure when he's ready to play that he's absolutely ready. We just want to build his confidence with a couple more football sessions and then we'll bring him back into match play through the VFL."

Bailey Macdonald (hip) - Test

"Bailey withdrew before the game, he just flagged some hip flexor soreness pre-game and we made the call that he wouldn't play. We went and sent him for some scans, it's quite a minor issue, some bursitis in his hip flexor area. He's a test for this weekend's game and we'll have more information on Thursday. He would need it to settle somewhat from today, so he's 50/50 at this stage for the weekend."

Jack O'Sullivan (hamstring) - 1 week

"He's progressing well. We've made some steps from last week. He won't be playing this weekend, we're aiming for the first game after the bye, so we are moving forward. The next stage for him is to return to football training, so we're getting closer."
