Hawthorn forward Nick Watson has been recognised as the Round 19 Telstra AFL Rising Star nominee following a breakout performance against Collingwood on Saturday afternoon.

Suiting up in his 11th AFL match, the 19-year-old livewire made the most of his 12 disposals, going at 92 per cent efficiency and booting three goals.

Watson also contributed six score involvements and two inside 50s, highlighting his influence for the brown and gold in the 66-point win over the Pies in front of 74,171 fans at the MCG.

Hawthorn Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney was pleased to see Watson recognised for his hard work over a number of weeks.

“Nick has consistently shown his willingness to get the best out of himself and to help the team succeed,” McCartney said.

“From the moment he pulled on the brown and gold guernsey, he has impressed us with his work ethic and has rapidly earned the respect of his teammates.

“We are proud that Nick has been recognised for his efforts to date and we are also excited about what the future holds for him.”
