A tightly contested battle was played with fantastic spirit at Action Indoor Sports Tullamarine on Sunday, ending with a close encounter that saw Hawthorn hold on to win back-to-back Grand Finals within the VBFL.
The first quarter saw the Borough get the early jump on the Hawks as Reuben Fairbank got the first goal and then assisted Nathan Letts to score an A-Class major (18pts) as the Borough led 1-24.
The Hawks were able to get one back for themselves through Cebby Johnson as the first term came to an end with Port leading 21-24.
Hawthorn was able to break the game open in the second quarter and its 47-7 term was really the difference maker.
Johnny Boland was able to break through in the opening 15 seconds followed by Ned Brewer-Maiga snapping through seconds later.
Down the other end of the ground, Steve Obied was playing a defensive role and completely shut the Borough's forays forward while also setting up his players down the field setting up a 68-33 lead at half-time.
Things started to tighten up in the 3rd quarter as both teams only scored 10 points apiece as goals were proving hard to come by, it did set up a 35-point lead in favour of Hawthorn coming into the final 10 minutes.
The Borough tried desperately to come back in this game but the Hawks were too good, winning their third Victorian Blind Football League premiership.
Steve Obeid was awarded the best-on-ground medal for his efforts.
