Hawthorn Co-Vice-Captain Dylan Moore has thanked the brown and gold faithful for their support leading into the team’s two final home-and-away matches this season.
When fronting the media on Friday morning, the star Hawk also touched on the players’ mood heading into Sunday’s clash with Richmond, recognising Emergency Services workers as part of the game and the club breaking its membership record earlier this week.
We summarised the key points from his press conference below.
On the players’ mood heading into Sunday’s game
“I feel like the mood hasn’t really changed over the last eight or nine weeks. We’re enjoying our football and we’re having fun on and off the track, so this week’s no different. The message going into this week is like last week, it’s an elimination final. We’re at the ‘G, hopefully it’s a big crowd. We just need to put our best foot forward and play consistent football and hopefully we get the result.”
On one of the keys to his outstanding form
“I had a little bit of an interrupted pre-season with glandular fever. It actually helped me work on my mind because I couldn’t do anything physical. Adrian Hickmott worked closely with me. He got me to do a bit of mindfulness and mental resetting so I did that for a good six weeks when I was sick and I’ve just carried that throughout the whole season. I’ve been a bit more present, I’m a bit of an overthinker so to be able to reset my mind and be able to use that in games has helped me be a bit more consistent. Being able to get another pre-season in and feel physically capable of playing AFL football, I think that helps as well.”
On recognising Emergency Services workers during Sunday’s game
“They (Victoria Police) came down during the week. It was great to say g’day and thank them for their services. Josh Weddle’s parents are in the police force and they’re really into their football so we get to see them every week. To be able to contribute to the whole emergency services has been great. This week’s no different. We get to see them when we’re running out, they’re going to be in the guard of honour. To be able to show our respect is always nice.”
On the club breaking its membership record
“It’s great, just stick with us! We’re having a lot of fun on the field and for all the fans that are out there that are coming to every game, supporting us on socials, it means a lot. Nothing goes unnoticed with us. We love the crowd, especially game day - we’ve been playing in front of 70,000 people for probably half the time this year which has been absolutely amazing. We feed off that. It brings a bit more pressure to games but we love it so we can’t thank our fans enough.”
