The Hawks have gone two from two in their pre-season hit-outs with a 49-point win over the Swans in their official practice match at the SCG.

The first quarter proved the tightest tussle, with both teams coming out of the blocks firing and fighting for possession.

It was the Hawks who got on the board first through Aine McDonagh, who slotted a goal off the back of a dominant performance in front of goal last weekend.

The Swans managed a major of their own, but the Hawks’ defence was strong when challenged.

Mackenzie Eardley played just the first half of the match but was solid and impressive for the two quarters.

Hawthorn trailed by one point at the first break.

To open what would be a big second term, it was young gun Jasmine Fleming who converted from the set shot after being awarded a free kick.

McDonagh managed her second from the goal square before Hayley McLaughlin perfected a right-foot dribble kick for her first (unofficial) goal as a Hawk.

Emily Bates wanted part of the action in front of goal with a left-foot snap across her body for a captain’s goal.

To finish off a five goal to one second term, Kaitlyn Ashmore toed one through in the goal square.

The Hawks showed immense work rate across the ground, capitalising off the whole team effort with success in front of the sticks.

At half-time, the Hawks led by 25 points.

A few players played just the first half, with a couple of others like Bridie Hipwell stepping in for the back half of the match. She immediately made an impact with a strong mark inside forward 50.

Another first unofficial goal in brown and gold came through Jess Vukic, who made light work of it with a quick kick into an open goal.

Late in the third, Hipwell marked again with a perfect set shot delivery for her first of the afternoon.

Casey Sherriff was strong out of the midfield all day, adding a goal for her efforts late in the third to take the Hawks to a 40-point lead at the last break.

The last term highlighted the effects of a hard-fought game to date, with a slight dip in pressure and a few cramps visible across the ground.

But the Hawks managed to pile on two more goals through Charlotte Baskaran for her first, off the back of a solid tackle from Kaitlyn Ashmore deep inside 50.

Hipwell also managed her second with a kick on the siren to seal the Hawks win on the road.

All eyes are now on Round 1, with the Hawks set to take on Carlton at Kinetic Stadium, Frankston on Sunday 1 September.
