Hawthorn young guns Massimo D’Ambrosio, Jack Ginnivan and Josh Weddle have been named in the 2024 AFL Players’ Association 22under22 team.

The Hawks saw the second-most representatives of any club, with all three players rewarded for their dominant seasons in brown and gold.

It is D’Ambrosio’s first selection in the team, having played every game, bar one, in his debut season with the Hawks.

The 21-year-old has put up outstanding numbers on the wing, averaging 20.3 disposals and 4.9 marks and four score involvements per game.

Ginnivan’s second 22under22 selection comes off the back of a standout maiden season in Hawks colours.

Seamlessly fitting into the Hawthorn attack, the 21-year-old is ranked elite in his disposal (16.7) and kicks (10.3) averages.

The livewire forward has also kicked 23 goals from his 20 matches and was named in 82 per cent of voters’ 22under22 teams.

In just his second season at Hawthorn, Weddle has continued to showcase his versatility and running power.

Following strong averages of 14.1 disposals, 4.6 intercept possessions and three score involvements, the 20-year-old has earned his first selection in the 22under22 team.

The 22Under22 is a fan-voted concept that recognises the league’s best young players under the age of 22 who have made an impact on their club and the competition.

To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 or younger for the entire AFL season, including finals, and played a minimum of 12 games throughout the 2023 season.

Fellow brown and gold young gun Connor Macdonald was also named in the initial 44-player squad, but did not make the final team which was announced on Thursday.
