Hawthorn has confirmed that emerging defender Jai Serong will be selected in the Hawks’ Semi Final team to face Port Adelaide on Friday night.

The 21-year-old comes into the side in place of reliable defender Sam Frost who sustained a stress fracture in his foot following Hawthorn’s Elimination Final win over the Western Bulldogs last Friday.

Serong’s selection sees him rewarded for his outstanding VFL form this season where he has averaged 20.8 disposals, 7.2 marks and 6.8 rebound 50s across 13 matches.

He has also suited up in four AFL games for the Hawks this year, with his last one coming against the Power in Round 10.

Hawthorn Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney was pleased to see Serong get another AFL opportunity.

“While it is disappointing for Sam to miss Friday night’s game, we know Jai has been knocking on the door for a number of weeks now with his fantastic form in the VFL,” McCartney said.

“It’s pleasing to see him get another opportunity to showcase his weapons at the AFL level and we know he will take it with both hands.

“Along with Jai, our entire team is looking forward to playing against the Power in another big final on another big stage.”
