Hawthorn duo Mackenzie Eardley and Casey Sherriff are edging closer to a return from a concussion and a leg fracture respectively, while Greta Bodey has been added to the injury list with a toe joint issue ahead of the club's Week 8 clash with GWS.

Kristy Stratton and Laura Stone are both progressing well in their rehab of respective syndesmosis injuries, with a return-to-play timeline for each player to still be established.

AFLW High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an update on the five injured Hawks below.

Mackenzie Eardley (Concussion) – 1 week

“Mack’s still in the concussion protocols currently, so she’s still got some steps to work through there. As it stands, she’s not going to be available for this week but we anticipate she’ll continue to step through those protocols and once she’s clear of those she’ll be ready to play some football again.”

Casey Sherriff (Lower Leg) – 1-2 weeks

"Casey is progressing really well and will resume team training today, which is a big step for her out of the rehab group. We anticipate she’s going to do some modified skills this week with the group, we’ll do a match simulation session on Saturday and at this stage, pending progression through that and then main training with the group next week, we’re targeting our tenth game against Melbourne. Everything needs to go well to hit that target but right now she’s on trajectory for that, so that’s a really positive step for Casey.”

Kristy Stratton (Ankle) – TBC

“Stratts is progressing well and has resumed some AlterG (anti-gravity treadmill) running, so some modified weight-bearing running. Hoping by the end of this week she’ll be overground running and then we’ll continue to step through our modified skills and a return to main training. We still don’t have a timeline on that, we’re treating that clinically as she progresses with each step but so far, so good.”

Laura Stone (Ankle) – TBC

“As I mentioned last week, Stoney’s had a more significant syndesmosis injury. She’s progressing well, she’s got rid of the crutches and she’s full weight-bearing in the de-load boot. Given the sort of age and stage of her career we’ve gone for a fairly conservative management approach for Laura. We’re trying to give this a chance to heal naturally. We’ll have a look in another week. If things are continuing to progress, we’ll continue down this path but if we find we’re stalling in her progression we’ll probably look to a surgical intervention but at this stage, Laura’s progressing well and we’re hoping to avoid that right now.”

Greta Bodey (Toe) – TBC

“We’ve been managing a toe-joint issue with Greta over the last few weeks through our congested period. We decided to scan that just to understand what’s going on and the joint came back as we would expect but as part of that investigation we’ve revealed some other stuff that’s going on in an adjacent toe, so we’re having some discussions on how we might manage that right now. At this stage she’s likely to be unavailable for this week. Pending our conversations and further investigation, we’ll have some more information at a later date.”
