Mikayla Williamson has been named the Week 9 Telstra AFLW Rising Star following her standout performance in Hawthorn's win over Narrm in Cairns.

Williamson impressed in the victory with 14 disposals, four tackles, three intercept possessions and two score involvements in the six-point result at Cazalys Stadium.

In her first year at the top level, the 19-year-old has played every game after making her debut against Carlton in Week 1.

Williamson has established herself on the wing, averaging 10.4 disposals, 3.5 tackles and three intercepts per game.

The teenager is the first Hawk to receive a Rising Star nomination in 2024.

Hawthorn General Manager of Football Operations Max Bailey congratulated Williamson on the nomination.

“We have been impressed by Mikayla ever since she first pulled on the brown and gold in Week 1,” Bailey said.

“This is a great acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment Mikayla shows every week and we’re looking forward to seeing that continue for the rest of this season.”
