Hawthorn has drafted Lavinia Cox with Pick 15 in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.
Cox comes from a strong basketball background, impressing recruiters as a talented dual-sport athlete who has a WNBL rookie contract with Bendigo.
Having been scouted by the Bendigo Pioneers from a school football game, Cox featured in 11 games in the Coates Talent League this season, averaging 17 disposals and five tackles.
Despite her relatively short period playing Aussie rules, Cox’s progression has been among the most exciting in her draft class, going on to represent Vic Country on two occasions in 2024, averaging 12 disposals.
Cox’s elite athleticism both in the air and by foot are her two strongest attributes, with impressive agility, speed and endurance, as well as being composed with ball in hand.
