The Box Hill Hawks VFLW side made a massive statement in their Round 1 clash, powering past Geelong to secure a dominant 58-point win, 14.4 (88) to 4.6 (30).

From the opening bounce, the Hawks brought relentless pressure, clean ball movement and unmatched intensity, setting the tone for a stellar start to the season. It was a complete team performance, highlighted by the contribution of 10 debutants, who all slotted in seamlessly and made an immediate impact.

Among the standouts was Emma Stilve, who marked her first game in brown and gold with two goals and plenty of spark through the backline. Fellow debutants Stasia Stevenson and Olivia Fogarty also impressed, both hitting the scoreboard and racking up disposals in a confident display.

Box Hill’s forward line was firing on all cylinders, with Jess Matin leading the charge with three goals, while Mia Zielinski continued her goal-kicking form from last season with a classy two. At the other end, the backline stood strong, limiting Geelong’s scoring opportunities and providing steady rebound all afternoon.

Isla Baldwin was prolific with her ball use, while Gabby Collingwood’s composure and experience added real polish to the forward and midfield group.

The win was made even more special as the club celebrated Rosie Dillon’s 50th VFLW game – a well-deserved milestone for one of Box Hill’s most dependable leaders.

Next up the Hawks host Port Melbourne in Wonthaggi on Sunday 27 April from 2.35pm.
