Hawthorn forward Calsher Dear is in line for a return to football for the first time since September, having been listed as a test in this week's SKIPZ AFL Injury Update.

The 19-year-old has been dealing with a stress fracture in his back since December but will now aim to play some managed minutes in the VFL on Sunday as Box Hill hosts Port Melbourne in Wonthaggi.

Speaking to Triple M on Easter Monday before Hawthorn faced Geelong, Dear said he was looking forward to getting back out on the park soon.

"I'm back into full training and hopefully I'll play this Sunday, play half a game in the VFL and see how I go," he said.

"Hopefully I haven't lost it, it's been since September since I played a game, but super keen for that."

Fellow forward Jasper Scaife is also a test this week, while Mitch Lewis and Will Day continue to progress in their recoveries from a knee and foot injury, respectively.
